It is mandatory that all persons involved with our SBA youth (including Head Coaches, Assistant Coaches, Team Managers if they work with the Kids); all acquire a Vulnerable Sector check. If you are volunteering to help the team but will NOT be directly working with the kids alone, a VSC is not required. A VSC is required for each and every season (they last one year), with the date covering from the start to the completion of the season - September (EYBA) / October (HL) to early March.
The VSC is completely free of charge when you submit the letter from SBA. VSCs are required every year to cover the season September to March. NOTE: If you have had a VSC completed in another sport/activity that will last through our season, that will be acceptable. *Letters for your VSC can be located and picked up anytime in the mailbox at 476 Norway Crescent, Sherwood Park.
Your completed VSC can be downloaded to your profile when you register on RAMP. Any issues with that, you can email a copy to sbabasketball@shaw.ca.
Also required is Coaches to take the Safe Sport Training course: follow instructions HERE. Safe Sport training is a yearly coaching requirement.

COACH VOLUNTEER ONLINE REGISTRATION
If you are looking to sign up to Head Coach one of our elite 'Steel' teams for the 2024-25 season, you must apply. Coaches for those specific teams will be confirmed at the tryouts. STEEL coaching applications are due by August 15th, 2024. When you sign up to coach on RAMP, you will find the questions pertaining to the Tier 1/Tier 2/Tier 3 coaching positions (this process is the way in which you apply). Please answer all questions listed under the 13U/15U STEEL team specifically (see questions starting with "Part of the Application process for 13U/15U STEEL Coaches ONLY").
NOTE TO COACHES: If you do not sign up on the RAMP online system, you cannot be put on the list of coaches, meaning that you would not be selecting a gym time at the same time as other Coaches would have the opportunity. Please ensure you click one of the links above and get signed up. Thank you! Please PLEASE do not forget that ALL Coaches need a proper security check (VSC) & Safe Sport training course completed BEFORE the season starts.
Mandatory Coaching Requirement RCMP VULNERABLE SECTOR CHECK: you must pick up an original signed letter from the SBA mailbox at 476 Norway Crescent, Sherwood Park. You are to take this document to an RCMP detachment to attain the check free of charges. The RCMP check isn't required before signing up on RAMP, however, once you get the check completed, you can download the check back on RAMP under your profile. The letter will be updated in the mailbox regularly as it's been instructed by the RCMP that the letter is dated within a month's time. The RCMP have instructed us to require the checks on a yearly basis, so the date on your check should cover through to early March.
NOTE: SBA will NOT pay for your VSC if you check off "I would like to complete an Enhanced Online Police Information Check (Criminal Record Check)" when registering on RAMP. SBA is not requesting you to do this check online and the cost of $25 would be your responsibility to pay. If you live in Edmonton and are approved to coach in SBA, that is when SBA would cover this cost for you as the Edmonton Police Services will not accept the SBA letter of request for your VSC. Strathcona County local RCMP offices (Sherwood Park, Fort Sask., etc.) offer your VSC (vulnerable sector check) service for FREE when you take the accompanying letter to your local RCMP detachment.
