2024-2025 season information
EYBA (Edmonton Youth Basketball Association) Division: Boys and Girls Teams (2024-2025 age guidelines)

Teams practice 1-1.5 hours one evening per week in Sherwood Park and area school gyms. Games are in Edmonton and area on Saturdays (there may be an odd Friday evening game). Teams enter into a division in the EYBA where they fit as a team. Season includes: Seeding Round, 2nd Round, Main Round, Playoff Round.
The season runs from mid-late September to end of February or early March (pending how far the team goes in the playoffs) (time off through gym cancellations due to school closures and some holidays).
*Important Information Regarding Age/Division & Over-aged Players*
It is EYBA's policy that NO over-aged players are allowed in any division. This is regardless of experience, lack thereof, or how close a player's age may be to a lower division (e.g. December DOB). The only possible exemption that EYBA would consider are players with severe medical, developmental and/or physical disabilities. Any exemption needs to be approved by SBA and EYBA. That being said, players may MOVE UP to play in an older division; this also has to be determined by SBA in regards to division/team availability. Priority will be given to players that are within the exact age group of their registered team/division.

NEW TO THE 2024-2025 11U SEASON:
There will be an evaluation session for all 11Us that will be held on Saturday, August 24th (11U Girls from 10am-12pm / 11U Boys from 12-2pm). This is NOT a tryout; as long as we have enough Coaches for all teams, everybody will play. The idea is to tier players/teams so we enter them into the EYBA seeding round to the best of our ability. Teams will be put together so that players are placed on teams together within similar skill/ability. Practice evening requests will be accepted and friend requests will be taken but cannot be guaranteed. Should a player not be able to practice on a certain night and all Coaches have selected that night to practice, then a decision must be made to stay on an SBA team to play or pull out of SBA.
NOTE: EYBA is a larger 'house league.' If you lived in the Edmonton area and wanted to play community basketball, EYBA is the league you would play in, regardless of age/skill/experience. Beginners are accepted at all age categories.
**PROVINCIAL tournament (March 7-8, 2025) will be available for teams that are playing their final round and playoffs in Tier 1, Tier 2 or Tier 3. SBA is covering the team entry fee for teams at the Tier 1/Tier 2/Tier 3 levels and teams need to finish in the top (3) spots in city playoffs in order to be eligible to compete at the youth provincial tournament. The EYBA season includes the ABA Youth Provincials; meaning if an SBA team is in the top three spots in Tier 1, Tier 2 or Tier 3; it is an expectation that the team attends the provincial tournament.
All SBA Teams will consist of:
-
10-12 Players for 11U
-
12-14 Players for 13U, 15U
-
13-15 Players for 18U
SBA will enter all teams into the EYBA that we have enough players for as long as there are enough Coaches/Players.
Should we not have enough Coaches for all players signed up, we use our first-come first-served listing (assigned on the date/time a player becomes registered).

***IMPORTANT information regarding 18U/EYBA
*18U division:-
- Season #1 (Fall) is late September to mid-November (8-9 games in total);
- Season #2 (Winter) is January to late-February or early March (7-9 games including playoffs and potential provincial attendance).
- Registration for season #2 will NOT be open until mid-November (AFTER high school tryouts are completed).
- Jersey is supplied and must be returned at season's end.
- More costs may be incurred should the team enter into tournaments/camps.
- NOTE: 18U players that will be playing on their senior varsity basketball teams are NOT eligible to play community and although 18Us that play junior varsity basketball are still allowed to play community, they mainly opt out of community due to the conflicting schedules with their community teams playing on weekends while their school teams are playing tournaments on weekends.
**ACCEPTABLE PAYMENTS = Credit Card (payment plan is an option). If registering with funding from KidSport or JumpStart, the ID number will be required at time of registration. Registrations are accepted online only.
Registration will stay open until end of August unless SBA needs to cap its registration membership due to too many participants and/or not enough Coaches. In that case, some divisions may close sooner than others.
