2024-2025 Season...
EYBA (Edmonton Youth Basketball Association) Tier 1, Tier 2 & Tier 3 Divisions: Boys and girls teams for 13U (born in 2012-2013) and 15U (born in 2010-2011) ONLY
There will be tryout sessions to determine Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3 division athletes AND the rest of the teams that will be put together. These sessions will be held during the week of August 26th (See below schedule), then the following week. The Tier 1 & Tier 2 EYBA Mini tournament is scheduled for Sept. 13th-14th, 2024. For the 2024-25 season tryout dates/times, please click HERE.
Athletes MUST be registered prior to the tryouts.
If competitive enough, our SBA STEEL Teams will play in the EYBA's Tier 1, Tier 2 or Tier 3 divisions; boys games are on Tuesdays; while girls games are on Wednesdays. Teams that secure a position in EYBA's Tier 3 will be expected to play games during the weekday evenings (Boys, Tuesdays; Girls, Wednesdays) once in the main round, after Christmas only - to start the season our Tier 3 teams will be playing on weekends.
Coaches will select 12-14 athletes. Teams practice 1.5-2 hours once per week, with possibility of additional practices.
Athlete commitment is a must! The Tier 1 & Tier 2 division players are strongly recommended to those that have basketball listed as their #1 sport. There may be additional tournaments entered at the coaches' discretion with the chance to play in the provincial tournament in March. Season runs from September to March (time off at Christmas).
**Please be aware that Tier 1/2/3 teams out of SBA will be made at the team tryouts.* If you do not attend tryouts, you will be slotted on a Tier 4 team or lower.** ALL players will receive notification of below tryout and evaluation dates, via email later in the summer.
*Important Information Regarding Age/Division & Over-aged Players*
It is EYBA's policy that NO over-aged players are allowed in any division. This is regardless of experience, lack thereof, or how close a player's age may be to a lower division (e.g. December DOB). The only possible exemption that EYBA would consider are players with severe medical, developmental and/or physical disabilities. Any exemption needs to be approved by SBA and EYBA. That being said, players may MOVE UP to play in an older division; this also has to be determined by SBA in regards to division/team availability. Priority will be given to players that are within the exact age group of their registered team/division.
SBA STEEL Tryouts for 13U & 15U only are scheduled as follows (there will NOT be a fee to attend tryouts):
-
13U Girls - Monday, August 26th, 6:00-7:30pm & Wednesday, August 28th, 6:00-7:30pm
-
13U Boys - Tuesday, August 27th, 6:00-7:30pm & Thursday, August 29th, 6:00-7:30pm

For athletes that do not make our STEEL Tier 1, Tier 2, or Tier 3 teams (or those that opt NOT to try out for one of the above STEEL teams) are asked to attend our Community team evaluations (we will be deciding on our Tier 4 teams at the below evaluations - along with all other teams we will enter into the EYBA):
-
13U Girls - Saturday, September 7th (9-10:30am)
-
13U Boys - Saturday, September 7th (10:30-12pm)

**ALBERTA's Provincial Championship Tournament (March 7-8, 2025) will be available for teams that are playing their final round and playoffs in Tier 1, Tier 2 or Tier 3. SBA is covering the team entry fee for teams at the Tier 1/Tier 2/Tier 3 levels and teams need to finish in the top (3) spots in city playoffs in order to be eligible to compete at the youth provincial tournament. The EYBA season includes the ABA Youth Provincials; meaning if an SBA team is in the top three spots in Tier 1, Tier 2 or Tier 3; it is an expectation that the team attends the provincial tournament. NOTE: 13U/15U ONLY: our Tier 1/Tier 2/Tier 3 STEEL teams will represent SBA at the 2025 Youth Provincials.
REGISTRATION FEES = $602.00 *(NOTE: all prices listed below increase by $50.00 AFTER August 1st)
Keeper Jersey AND Shorts are included in the fees. STEEL Teams could likely have additional cost of team gear/equipment to be determined by the Coach(es).
Additional costs may be incurred should the team enter into other tournaments/camps/spring league.

**ACCEPTABLE PAYMENTS = Credit Card (payment plan/split payments will be an option to check off when you register online). If registering with funding from KidSport or JumpStart, the ID number will be required at time of registration. Registrations are accepted online only.
Registration will remain open until mid-August unless SBA needs to cap its registration membership due to too many participants and/or not enough Coaches. In that case, some divisions may close sooner than others.
