 2023-2024 season...

House League program: Boys and Girls (gender-separated teams)

9U: Born in 2015-2016 (This division will have the 9UG's playing against the 9UB's for games if there aren't enough girls to form four teams.)

11U: Born in 2013-2014 (This division could have the 11UG's playing against the 11UB's for games if there aren't enough girls to form four teams.)

All 9U & 11U teams practice one hour per week (Friday gym time is possible, but any other weekday evening may be a possibility).  Once a practice day/time is selected by the coach(es), that will remain for the season. Location for practices is Sherwood Park (local schools), with all games played on Saturdays in Sherwood Park school gyms.
9U's play 3-on-3 cross-court and 11U's play 4-on-4 full-court.
League rules are posted on the website.

Season goes from late October to early March (gym omit dates cause cancellations on various dates and Christmas break could be attached to December gym cancellations).

*The House League 9U & 11U seasons run from late October to 1st week in March (time off for various gym cancellations and during Holiday breaks.*

**NOTE:  THERE ARE NO PLAYOFFS IN ANY HOUSE LEAGUE DIVISION.

***NOTE regarding 11U GIRLS:  We are hopeful for a 11U House League division for the 2023-2024 season.  If not, teams that can be put together may be playing against 11U Boys for Saturday games. Should there not be enough girls to form at least one 11U HL team, the choice of a 11U SBA team that plays in EYBA may be an option, albeit at an increase in cost and pending availability.

FEE =$355.00  *(NOTE:  all prices listed below increase by $50.00 AFTER August 1st)

Uniform is purchased (jersey only; shorts can be ordered through our online store).  A uniform deposit cheque is NOT required as players keep their jerseys after the season is completed.  Fees also include individual/team picture and year-end medal.

Contact: Executive Director, Darlene Anstice

**ACCEPTABLE PAYMENTS = Credit Card (payment plan is an option).  If registering with funding from KidSport or JumpStart, the ID number will be required at time of registration.  Registrations are accepted online only.

Registration will be open until end of August unless SBA needs to cap its registration membership due to too many participants and/or not enough Coaches. In that case, some divisions may close sooner than others.

HL 11U vs. EYBA 11U...

At the 11U level (born 2013-2014), a player can register for the SBA EYBA (Edmonton Youth Basketball Association) or alternatively register for the SBA HL program. With all  Zones that are involved in the EYBA, there is no other level/age group that has the option of House League because the lower EYBA divisions are basically just that, a House League.

There is more cost associated with the team playing in the EYBA for the following reasons:

  • EYBA's season starts 3-4 weeks earlier;

  • EYBA charges each team a fee to enter;

  • Longer practice times,

  • Higher paid Officials EYBA hires from EBOA (Edmonton Basketball Officials Association),

  • Each division has their own playoffs,

  • Higher tiered 11U teams, if they end up in Tier 1 or Tier 2, have the chance to compete at the Alberta Basketball provincial tournament in March.

  • **New to the 2023-2024 season, there are individual training sessions being offered to all players from Legacy Athletics and their professional Coaches.

The EYBA is typically a larger 'House League' in that if you lived in the city of Edmonton and signed your child up for 11U basketball within a Zone, EYBA is where they would be placed regardless of skill, size, whether they are a beginner or experienced, etc.. Games in EYBA will be in and around Edmonton, while HL games are strictly in Sherwood Park only.

For teams in HL, practices are 1-hour in length (in the Park) while teams in EYBA, practices are 1.5 hours in length (also in the Park).  When placing teams together in the HL, we do that determined by requests, splitting up experience, age, so that we can try to balance the teams more evenly.  This isn’t always full proof so teams can be unfortunately unbalanced.

For EYBA, regardless of how we put the teams together, the EYBA seeding rounds take care of placing teams where they fit into all of the EYBA’s league.  So for example, a team that starts off in EYBA’s 11U Tier 4, could move down to Tier 5 or up to Tier 3, depending on results in two (3-5 game) seeding rounds.

NOTE:  Both our HL and EYBA league 11Us play 4v4 games, lowered hoops, and use the size 5 basketball.
