Update to SBA's 11U programming coming for the 2024-2025 season.

Mar. 06, 2024

Please be aware that the only option for the 11Us (B. 2014-2015) for the 2024-2025 season will be playing in the EYBA (Edmonton Youth Basketball Association's league).  There will NOT be an SBA House League format for this age group.

There will be an evaluation session held in early September that all registered players will be asked to attend - this is NOT a tryout.  As long as there are enough Coaches for all teams, everybody will be placed onto a team.

Friend requests will not be accepted as we attempt to properly place players where they fit according to their experience/skill; however, practice night requests can be a consideration.  Upon receipt of Head Coach registrations (open at the same time as player registrations), their practice time preference will be noted and if there is the time slot available as per their request/preference, they will be slotted accordingly.  Should all Coaches select a day of the week that a registered player has requested NOT to practice on, the player/parent decision will be made to accept the team they are put on or they can ask to be have their registration cancelled.

How the Edmonton Youth Basketball Association works:

  • EYBA is a larger 'house league.'  Check out their website HERE.

  • If you were to reside in Edmonton as an 11U player, the EYBA 11U division would be your only choice to register through your Zone.  Teams get put into respective divisions at time of our EYBA Team Declaration is due (September).   Zones that enter teams into the EYBA are:  SBA; Edmonton's NE, NW, SE, SW Zones; Parkland; Beaumont; Leduc; St. Albert; Morinville; Wetaskiwin.

  • As a Zone, we cannot declare more than two teams in one EYBA division.  Currently in the EYBA for the 2023-2024 season, there are (7) divisions in 11U Boys and (6) divisions in 11U Girls.  11U Divisions have 6-8 teams in each division.  Teams are put into a division and play mainly one game per weekend (Seeding Round #1) and after 4-6 games, there is potential team movement up/down down/up (pending game results) for Round 2.  Another 4-6 games are played, then there is one last movement of teams up/down down/up for a 3rd round called the Main Round.  Teams play this main round of 4-6 games, then enter into EYBA playoffs within their own division.

  • Every team in EYBA makes the playoffs.

  • The EYBA 11U league rules play 4 on 4 basketball at the 8.5-9' hoop, with the size 5 ball (same as our HL program to date).  They play with carded Officials from the EBOA.  EYBA rules and rule modifications can be found on the EYBA website at the above link.

  • Teams that end up in 1st, 2nd or 3rd place, receive gold/silver/bronze medals.

  • Teams that end up in EYBA's Tier 1, Tier 2 or Tier 3 for the Main Round will have the opportunity to compete at the Alberta Basketball's Youth Provincial tournament (held yearly in the 2nd week in March).

  • Top teams that place 1st, 2nd, 3rd (sometimes 4th) in the City Playoffs in Tier 1, 2 or 3 will be sent to compete in the ABA Youth Provincials.  *SBA covers the ABA team entry fee for our teams that succeed in making it to the ABA Youth Provincial Tournament.  Youth provincials has been held in Edmonton for the past number of years; however, there has been recent discussion that Calgary may look to host the provincials in the near future, yet TBD.

Our SBA 11U teams will practice in Sherwood Park and/or potentially at a new facility very close to Sherwood Park (yet to be determined pending scheduling to be worked on later in this current off-season).

11U games will be held at Saville Centre (11610 65 Avenue, NW Edmonton), EYBA Centre (78111 56 Avenue NW Edmonton) or at the new facility (off of the Sherwood Park Freeway & 34th Street) (practice/game schedules will be determined closer to the end of summer 2024).  Games will NOT be held in Sherwood Park.

Coaches will be required for this league, as per usual.  Parent Coaches will always have their own child(ren) on their team.

As far as registration; our AGM will be held in May (TBD), then online registration will open sometime in June.  Stay tuned to the website for more information.
