o The SBA is not providing hand sanitizer, the facility has many hand sanitizer locations throughout it for athletes to use. If you would like to send hand sanitizer with your son he may use it whenever he feels it is necessary.
o I think the assumption that was made was that everyone entering the facility would use the hand sanitizer at the door but I agree it is reasonable that our cohort managers ask each athlete to use the facilities hand sanitizer before entering the gym and we will inform them of that today.
o We are not wiping down the balls before, during or after the session. For a number of reasons:
We are working from the position that is unlikely that any athlete in gym has COVID
If we did wipe down the ball we would immediately hand it back to a child for use who is exercising and would immediately contaminate the ball again
To my knowledge no other operating basketball program on the province is sanitizing basketballs before, during or after a session
The balls are made of leather or synthetic leather and attempting to sanitize basketballs regularly would likely ruin them
o A cohort will use the same basketballs every session and the balls are being quarantined between sessions for long enough to exceed the recommend guideline for surface contact lifespan of the covid virus.
o Athletes are not allowed to bring in and use there own balls because we have no control over who may have used that ball without quarantining it before or after our sessions.
o Your child is in a cohort of 20 and up to 35 athletes, depending on division and those assuming they all come to the session. The guideline from Alberta Basketball and AHS is 50 athletes. We would prefer to have less athletes in the gym; however, the only way to accommodate with the gym time available to us would be to cut athletes from the program.
o To further reduce the group contact size, our Coaches have been asked to try and split their groups into smaller groups and practice in stations retaining those smaller groups.
o There are to be none, parents of athletes should be sure they filled out the Daily Attestation Form prior to arriving at the gym and drop the athlete off at the door.
o Change rooms are closed athletes should arrive dressed to play.
o Water bottles should not be shared.
o Water bottle fill stations will be available, water fountains will not.
Forms and Systems *IMPORTANT*
o Our system is automated and scheduled to prevent people from filling out forms too early or after a gym session has started.
o Four (4) hours before the session an email is sent with a link to the Daily Attestation Form to the email address for each member of the group. We are using the primary email address for the registrant some people put there child's email address in the registration, that is not ideal since a child should not be signing a declaration form. If this situation applies to you, please contact us with a different email address.
o At 15 minutes before the gym session begins, the cohort manager will receive an email with a list of all the people who filled in the Daily Attestation form, they should be checking this list to insure that each athlete who signs into gym on the Daily Trace Log has completed the Daily Attestation form.
o The cohort manager should not let anyone into the gym until they have signed in, athletes should line up in the hallway out side the entrance to the gym, sign in and THEN enter the gym.
o After the session has ended, the cohort manager should take a picture of the Daily trace log and email it to SBAbasketball@shaw.ca.
The email address that the forms are sent from is not monitored, please send any questions to SBAbasketball@shaw.ca
All of our cohorts are equal to or less than the AHS and Alberta Basketball guidelines of 50 athletes per cohort.
Any athlete displaying covid symptoms will be taken out of the gym and asked to wait for their parent to pick them up. They will be separated from anyone in the facility until their parent arrives.
The attestation form that you receive and sign before sessions is self explanatory. It states the following at the bottom (before signage):
FOR PARTICIPANTS WHO HAVE BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH COVID-19
By signing below, the Participant (named below) or the Participant or the Participant’s Guardian attests that the Participant has been diagnosed with COVID-19, but been cleared as non contagious by provincial or local public health authorities and has provided to the Organization, in conjunction with this COVID-19 ATTESTATION AND AGREEMENT, written confirmation from a medical doctor of the same.
The above does NOT mean that your child is diagnosed with COVID-19 now, if confirms that IF they did contract the virus, they are now clear. This statement has been taken right from AHS so it must be on the document.
