NOTE:  PLAYER/COACH INSURANCE:

Separately from the SBA registration, as members of the Alberta Basketball Association, at the time of submitting your child(ren)'s SBA registration, you will be instructed to pay the ABA fee of $20.  This is a one-time fee, that expires one year from registration date, is due and payable to ABA at time of registration (ABA only accepts credit card payments).  Please note that this fee is NOT being charged to you through our SBA fees, thus it is a separate entity.

  • For past/existing SBA Players:  Please be sure to register as an 'existing' member already; meaning, you will NOT need to create a new member unless you are new to SBA &/or the RAMP system possibly in basketball &/or other sports.
  • For Coaches that sign up:  SBA is covering your $20 ABA fee; therefore, you will NOT have to pay that when you register on RAMP as a Coach.  NOTE:  ALL Coaches must be registered on RAMP and MUST get a VSC completed.

**ACCEPTABLE PAYMENTS = Credit Card (payment plan is an option).  If registering with funding from KidSport or JumpStart, the ID number will be required at time of registration.  Registrations are accepted online only.

Registration will be open until end of August unless SBA needs to cap its registration membership due to too many participants and/or not enough Coaches. In that case, some divisions may close sooner than others.

No cheques/cash will be accepted, unless an alternate payment plan needs to be set up.  If an alternate payment plan needs to be set up through KidSport/Jumpstart; please Email Darlene Anstice at your earliest convenience.

For funding through KidSport, please link HERE.  For funding through the Jumpstart program, please link HERE.

HOUSE LEAGUE

(Tykes/7U - born 2017-2018; 9U - born 2015-2016; **11U** - born 2013-2014)

EYBA

**For 13U/15U Tier 1/Tier 2 STEEL Tryouts and COMMUNITY Evaluations, click HERE.**

PLEASE CLICK HERE TO REGISTER!

Both HOUSE LEAGUE & EYBA LEAGUE are under the '2023-24 ABA Membership Year.'

NOTE:  If you are a previous SBA/RAMP member, please ensure you select an existing member that will be listed.  Do NOT select a new member.

If your division of choice is NOT listed once you are in the RAMP registration site, this indicates that the division is FULL and no more registrations can be accepted at this time.  What determines 'FULL' is #1) not having enough Coaches for the amount of players registered; #2) EYBA's limit of teams coming from our Zone; and/or #3) not having enough gym time.  However, you can be put onto a waitlist by emailing Darlene and letting her know the division/date-of-birth of your child(ren).  There is always the chance somebody pulls their registration.

HL/EYBA **11U**

At the 11U level (born 2013-2014), a player can register for the SBA EYBA (Edmonton Youth Basketball Association) or alternatively register for the SBA HL program. With all  Zones that are involved in the EYBA, there is no other level/age group that has the option of House League because the lower EYBA divisions are basically just that, a House League.

There is more cost associated with the team playing in the EYBA for the following reasons:

  • EYBA's season starts 3-4 weeks earlier;
  • EYBA charges each team a fee to enter;
  • Longer practice times,
  • Higher paid Officials EYBA hires from EBOA (Edmonton Basketball Officials Association),
  • Each division has their own playoffs,
  • Higher tiered 11U teams, if they end up in Tier 1 or Tier 2, have the chance to compete at the Alberta Basketball provincial tournament in March.

The EYBA is typically a larger 'House League' in that if you lived in the city of Edmonton and signed your child up for 11U basketball within a Zone, EYBA is where they would be placed regardless of skill, size, experience, etc.. Games in EYBA will be in and around Edmonton, while HL games are strictly in Sherwood Park only.

For teams in HL, practices are 1-hour in length (in the Park) while teams in EYBA, practices are 1.5 hours in length (also in the Park).  When placing teams together in the HL, we do that determined by requests, splitting up experience, age, so that we can try to balance the teams more evenly.  This isn’t always full proof so teams can be unfortunately unbalanced.

For EYBA, regardless of how we put the teams together, the EYBA seeding rounds take care of placing teams where they fit into all of the EYBA’s league.  So for example, a team that starts off in EYBA’s U11 Tier 4, could move down to Tier 5 or up to Tier 3, depending on results in two (3-5 game) seeding rounds.

NOTE:  Both our HL and EYBA league play 4v4 games, lowered hoops, and use the size 5 basketball.

Please note that in SBA's House League, although we do not recommend it, we would allow players to play down a level. However, in EYBA, NO over-aged players are allowed. Players can play up a level of their age group, but cannot play down.

For more help when deciding which league suits your child best, you can contact Darlene at sbabasketball@shaw.ca.

See PROGRAMS (very top of page) for all details of programs, age groups, etc.  You can also find FAQs at the top of the home page as well.

Any questions that you cannot find the answers to can be emailed to Darlene at the above email link.

COACHES

VOLUNTEER RCMP VULNERABLE SECTOR CHECKS   /   RAMP VOLUNTEER FORM

It is 100% mandatory that ALL persons involved with our SBA youth (including Head Coaches, Assistant Coaches, Team Managers if they work with the Kids, Division Coordinators if they work with the Kids) acquire a Vulnerable Sector check).  If you are volunteering to help the team but will NOT be directly working with the kids alone, a VSC is not required.  A VSC is required for each season, with the date covering from the start to the completion of the season - September (EYBA) / October (HL) to early March.

The VSC is completely free of charge when you submit the letter from SBA.

Deadlines to submit your required coaching Vulnerable Sector check:

  • EYBA SBA STEEL Coaches' (13U/15U Tier 1/Tier 2 ONLY) -  August 28th.

  • EYBA SBA Community Coaches - September 15th

  • (HL) House League SBA Coaches - October 15th.

COACH VOLUNTEER ONLINE REGISTRATION

***PLEASE CLICK HERE TO REGISTER**

Coach, when registering to coach, please use code:  SBACOACH2324, and you will avoid the $20 ABA fee covered by SBA.

13U/15U Tier 1/Tier 2 SBA 'STEEL' ELITE TEAM PROGRAM:

If you are looking to sign up to Head Coach one of our elite 'Steel' teams for the 2023-24 season, you must apply.  Coaches for those specific teams will be confirmed by the end of August.  STEEL coaching applications are due by August 15th, 2023.  When you sign up to coach on RAMP, you will find the questions pertaining to the Tier 1/Tier 2 coaching positions (this process is the way in which you apply).  Please answer all questions listed under the 13U/15U STEEL team specifically (see questions starting with"Part of the Application process for 13U/15U STEEL Coaches ONLY").

NOTE TO COACHES:  If you do not sign up on the RAMP online system, you cannot be put on the list of coaches, meaning that you would not be selecting a gym time at the same time as other Coaches would have the opportunity.  Please ensure you click one of the links above and get signed up.  Thank you! Please PLEASE do not forget that ALL Coaches need a proper security check completed BEFORE the season starts.

Mandatory Coaching Requirement RCMP VULNERABLE SECTOR CHECK:  you must pick up an original signed letter from the SBA mailbox at 476 Norway Crescent, Sherwood Park.  You are to take this document to an RCMP detachment to attain the check free of charges.  The RCMP check isn't required before signing up on RAMP, however, once you get the check completed, you can download the check back on RAMP under your profile.  The letter will be updated in my mailbox regularly as it's been instructed by the RCMP that the letter is dated within a month's time.  The RCMP have instructed us to require the checks on a yearly basis, so the date on your check should cover through to early March.

NOTE:  SBA will NOT pay for your check if you check off "I would like to complete an Enhanced Online Police Information Check (Criminal Record Check)" when registering on RAMP.  SBA is not requesting you to do this check online and the cost of $25 would be your responsibility to pay.  If you live in Edmonton and are approved to coach in SBA, that is when SBA would cover this cost for you.  Our local RCMP offices (Sherwood Park, Fort Sask., etc.) offer this VSC (vulnerable sector check) service for FREE when you take the accompanying letter to your local RCMP detachment.

THANK YOU FOR SIGNING UP TO VOLUNTEER IN SBA!!  WITHOUT YOU, WE CANNOT RUN OUR LEAGUE!
