SBA - AHS - UPDATED OCTOBER 12TH

Oct. 12, 2021

The facilities that SBA teams play in have implemented the Restrictions Exemption program and since we do not own or lease any of the facilities that we play in, we must follow suit so that we can continue to run our Association.  These facilities include Elk Island after-school rentals; Saville Community Sports Centre & Legacy Athletics.  We are cognizant of the Youth (under 18) AHS rule that allows for screening, masks and distancing.  However, our facilities have mandated the REP, so as an Association we have concurred.  This means that SBA players that cannot present proper entry documentation are not eligible to play this season.

We fully realize that as a user group with the Elk Island School District (both Catholic & Public), we have not been forced by them to implement the RE program (where as stating that kids 12+ years of age produce double vaccination records), to the same degree that SCSC & LA have (see below).  HOWEVER, since many of the SBA games are to be scheduled in the SCSC &/or Legacy gyms, we cannot know which teams would be scheduled there or which teams would be scheduled in the Sherwood Park gyms; nor can we expect any request of EYBA as such.  That said, we have to continue to take the stance already taken in that ALL teams/players are to be created equal.  We simply cannot have one rule for one team and another rule for the next, determined by where their games are scheduled.

If any of this is a problem, please email Darlene to cancel your child's registration.  We do understand that normal absences are imminent due to vacations, medical reasons, family reasons, etc., not to mention that during these trying times of Covid-19, it is especially important that kids stay away from a practice or game while feeling any signs of illness and only return when those symptoms are completely gone.  However, we just cannot run a league with hard working Volunteer Coaches seeing kids come and go due to other reasons.  Basketball is a team sport and the commitment to twice weekly isn't that great as it is.  We feel kids need to be committed to their team and it's only fair to the Coaches that they get as much commitment from their players as possible.

PROOF OF VACCINATION

To enter spaces participating in the Restrictions Exemption Program, people ages 12 and older can provide proof of vaccination.

    • single dose accepted between September 20 and October 25 if received 2 weeks before time of service

    • double doses required after October 25

  • documentation of a medical exemption

PROOF OF MEDICAL EXEMPTION

To enter spaces participating in the Restrictions Exemption Program, people 12 and older can provide documentation of a medical exemption.

  • A valid medical exemption is the original signed letter from a physician or nurse practitioner that includes:

    • Person's name that matches their identification.

    • Physician’s or nurse practitioner’s complete information, including:

      • name, phone number, contact information, professional registration number and signature

      • statement that there is a medical reason for not being fully vaccinated against COVID-19

      • duration that the exemption is valid

PROOF OF NEGATIVE TEST (up to October 25th)

To enter spaces participating in the Restrictions Exemption Program, people aged 12 and older can show proof of a negative test result.

  • The test result should be a written or printed copy that indicates the individual has tested negative for COVID-19 on a Health Canada approved rapid antigen, rapid PCR, or lab based PCR test approved by Health Canada or the lab accreditation body of jurisdiction.

    • Valid test results should be a written or printed copy that clearly outlines the type of test, time of sample collection, clear indication of a negative result, and laboratory that completed the test, if applicable.

    • Photos of a rapid test or result taken offsite is not sufficient.

    • A self-test completed offsite or self-produced documentation of a negative test result is not valid.

    • Do not bring completed self-tests or rapid tests to businesses due to communicable disease risk.

  • Tests must not be from the Alberta Health Services public COVID-19 testing system.

  • Operators offering on-site rapid testing should seek expert medical oversight prior to implementing a rapid testing program.

  • For more details, see requirements for the Restrictions Exemption Program.

Check out other facilities we play in and their mandates:

Legacy Athletics  -- after October 25th, for those of ages 12 and older, double vaccinations are required to enter the facility.  LA will continue to accept negative rapid tests within 72 hours from those with a medical exemption OR from those that are not double vaccinated.  FYI:  LA will remain with the NO Spectator rule as they are a small facility with limited staff and limited space for social distancing.

Saville Centre  -- after October 25th, the SCSC will no longer accept negative Covid rapid test results and require all persons 12 years of age and older to be double vaccinated.  This is with the exception of those with a medical exemption that must still have a negative rapid test result within 72 hours of their scheduled event at the SCSC.  FYI:  They have lifted the NO Spectator rule, however people need to ensure they don't fill the stands, can stay social distanced and always wear masks inside the facility.  It is highly recommended that each player be very limited with their fan support during their games.

EYBA League mandates

Our ultimate goal is to have everybody involved, Players & Coaches, be back to playing basketball again and in doing so we ensure it is in a very safe environment.  Your continued support of our goal is very much appreciated.
